HOLY HOLY RELEASE VIDEO FOR ‘SENTIMENTAL AND MONDAY’

One week out from their anticipated debut album release, nostalgic Aussie indie rockers, Holy Holy have today released a reflective video for new single, Sentimental and Monday.

“Sentimental and Monday has a bit of different feel to some of our other songs – it uses a hip hop beat and a boy choir at the end to build up to the outro, which I love,” enthuses lead vocalist and songwriter Tim Carroll. “We also used sped up piano in the middle, so there are a few little tricks in the mix on this one.”

The result is dynamic, tasteful and restrained. Radiating an overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, the song was “inspired by the onset of winter and the feeling of the long, dark season approaching” coupled with the sentiment Carroll experienced when leaving Stockholm after calling it home for a year. Carroll goes on to explain, “It’s about leaving loved ones behind and that sentimental feeling you get when saying goodbye. It’s meant to be kinda sad but also uplifting in a way, there’s a freedom from moving away that’s exciting and scary.”

The film clip was created by Josh Dawson, guitarist Oscar Dawson’s brother. Josh works as a director in Berlin producing short films and video projects. For this track he created an otherworldly dreamscape of seemingly impossible scenes. Shot from the window of passenger jet, the clip references the themes of moving away and pushes into the unreal.

Having recently returned from a hugely successful UK/EU tour in May (which included packed shows at Primavera Spain, London Calling Amsterdam & The Great Escape UK – where Artrocker named them in their top 6 bands of the festival), Holy Holy are also geared for their performance at Splendour In The Grass, the release of their debut album When The Storms Would Come on July 24, a 17 date national album tour through August/September, and a planned follow-up UK/EU tour for later this year. 2015 is set to be the biggest year yet for this hard working band.

Holy Holy is fronted by the songwriting team, vocalist/composer Timothy Carroll and guitarist/composer Oscar Dawson. They are joined on the road by permanent drummer Ryan Strathie (Hungry Kids Of Hungary, Andy Bull), touring bassist Graham Ritchie (Airling, Emma Louise), and Brisbane-based producer Matt Redlich as their touring keys player.

JOSH PYKE RELEASES QUIRKY LYRIC VIDEO FOR HOLLERING HEARTS AHEAD OF 5TH STUDIO ALBUM RELEASE ON JULY 31

Two weeks out from the release of his anticipated fifth studio album, But For All These Shrinking Hearts (due July 31), Josh Pyke has dropped a quirky lyric video for single one, Hollering Hearts.

“Inspired by old-school encyclopedia’s and specifically the section of plastic pages used to separate the human body into layers of muscles, bones and organs,” the video cleverly uses the upbeat, ukulele driven track to tell an animated tale of ‘Josh Pyke’s guide to the human body’, comically conveying what lies beneath the skin of a chirpy skeleton, animated version of Pyke. With each page of the book turned, a new layer of life is revealed on the skeleton, first a heart, then other organs, veins and more until eventually a fully living Josh Pyke is revealed.

“It was great fun getting dressed up to create the foundation for the Hollering Hearts lyric video, I’ve been wanting to rock a skeleton body suit for a while now,” jokes Pyke.

Recorded across Sony, Alberts and Pyke’s home studio with John Castle (Megan Washington, Vance Joy) at the helm, “A lot of this record is me thinking about my relationship with creativity,” Josh explains. “It’s all starting to feel real now, two weeks till album number five is out! The strange lull between making a record and it being out in the world is almost over and I can’t wait!” beams Pyke.

For those who are keen to get to a show to hear Pyke’s new material live in an intimate setting, there are still an extremely limited number of fans-first album pre-order packages available. Comprising the deluxe edition of the new record featuring two exclusive tracks, a collectors lyric magnet set and an exclusive ticket to one of Pyke’s fans-first shows in Sydney at The Soda Factory on July 29, Melbourne at Bella Union on August 5, Adelaide at Grace Emily on August 6 and Brisbane at Black Bear Lodge on August 12. These shows will not be ticketed and are only available to those who pre-order the But For All These Shrinking Hearts package.

NUSSY ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE ‘MY HEROIN’ ALONGSIDE LAUNCH DATES IN MELBOURNE & SYDNEY

Melbourne synth-pop starlet Nussy has announced the release of her new single, My Heroin (out June 10), alongside single launch dates at The Shadow Electric in Melbourne on July 17 and at Gallery Bar, Oxford Arts Factory in Sydney on August 13.

After garnering critical praise for her 2014 debut EP, Dizzy, Nussy has again teamed up with Michael Paynter and Michael Delorenzis at MSquared Productions to deliver the edgy and provocative new single, My Heroin. Continually impressing with her own distinctive sound, Nussy’s sugary sweet vocals are perfectly juxtaposed by her dark, contentious lyrics, sure to lure you in on the first listen.

“My Heroin is about being involved in a toxic relationship,” describes Nussy. “It’s like an addiction where something else within you takes over and you can’t make logical decisions – hence the reference to the drug heroin – that even at the very lowest of the low points, you convince yourself that the highs are worth it.”

Directed by Jarred Osborn and Julian Lucas from Wildebeest (2014 Tropfest winner Granny Smith, Alt-J Matilda, Chiefs Stay), the duo responsible for masterminding the clip for previous single, Dizzy, the video for My Heroin (out June 22) features Nussy with a gang of sidekicks who kidnap Nussy’s love interest and hold him captive. Fed up with his inability to commit, Nussy and her gang take matters in to their own hands and ultimately make his decisions for him, seeking revenge for all the heartache he has caused. “It’s a bit crazy and shows the psychotic side of someone who is possessed by the toxic relationship they are in – almost like being under the influence of drugs,” Nussy explains.

Nussy plans to release a new EP later this year.

Tickets are now available for her Melbourne and Sydney shows.

“Melbourne singer and songwriter Dani Smarrelli – trading as Nussy – is out to remind you that pop music can be crafted and not just manufactured.”
