HOLY HOLY ANNOUNCE NATIONAL TOUR FOR JANUARY
Holy Holy have today announced a national tour for January set to kick off in Sydney at Oxford Art Factory on the 15th, moving through to Newcastle, Perth, Adelaide, The Corner in Melbourne and finishing up at the Triffid in Brisbane on January 30.
And as an added bonus, the band will be giving away a free track to everyone who buys a ticket to one of the shows, an album, or an item of merch between now and the beginning of the A HEROINE tour. The song is called The Constitution and was an original contender for the When The Storms Would Come album.
The home turf tour announce lands hot off the heels of the band’s second European tour where they recently released their critically acclaimed debut album, When The Storms Would Come. Stunning reviews have been flooding in, including a 4 star review in The Sun calling the record “A special debut… something truly blissful.”
After attending their sold out London show, The Huffington Post said Holy Holy are “re-awakening their genre in an accurate and sonically spectacular fashion… Holy Holy are modern, indie DIY travellers who carry dream pop loveliness off with the big riffs and solos of a now almost forgotten time with mesmerising aplomb.” Liam Gallagher also came along, and as big fans, the band were incredibly honoured and delighted to meet him after the show.
With an already epic year under their belts, Holy Holy have notched up another bunch of highlights with Oscar Dawson and Tim Carroll announced as the first two people from one band to make the longlist for the prestigious APRA PDA Songwriting Awards, and Tim winning the coveted award last week. Triple j recently added their 6th consecutive song, A Heroine to rotation, the band are on the bill for Falls and Mountain Sounds Festivals over summer, and the album has been announced on the longlist for The AMP (Australian Music Prize). Add in Holy Holy’s recent extensive, sold-out national album tour of Aus, their killer set at Splendour In The Grass and their two European/UK tours and it’s been a year well worth writing home about.
Joinging Holy Holy on the A Heroine tour will be Australian synth-pop starlet, Olympia and Canadian alternative folk pop band, The Franklin Electric. It’s been an exciting year for Olympia with the release of three singles, support slots with Alpine, Lamb & Paul Dempsey, glowing media praise and anticipation growing ahead of her album release next year. Similarly, The Franklin Electric have had huge success in their homeland of Canada over the last 18 months, selling out their own headline shows, as well as supporting City & Colour and Half Moon Runs on international tours.
Holy Holy is fronted by the songwriting team, vocalist/composer Timothy Carroll and guitarist/composer Oscar Dawson. They are joined on the road by permanent drummer Ryan Strathie, Graham Ritchie & their producer Matt redlich on keys.

“A musical tour de force from start to finish…When The Storms Would Come sounds like a career-defining set from an established act rather than an opening statement.” UK Songwriting Magazine, 4/5 stars
SHELLEY SEGAL ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE, BACKGROUND NOISES ALONGSIDE NATIONAL TOUR
Having just returned from a huge 40-date tour in the US, spirited Melbourne singer songwriter, Shelley Segal has announced the release of her new single, Background Noises. The flirtatious storyteller will hit the road for a string of national dates kicking off in Perth on November 18, moving through Adelaide, on to Victoria to play Dromana, Bennetts Lane and Paynesville, Brisbane, Albury, back to Adelaide and then home to Melbourne to complete the tour at Shelley’s regular Collins Square residency on December 18.
Lifted from her Strange Feeling EP (released May 2015), Background Noises is a blissfully lush and layered song, full of strings, keys and horns. Background Noises shows a more vulnerable and delicate side to the prolific and often opinionated singer songwriter. Written after the divorce of close friends and trying to imagine the situation from their perspective, Shelley explains, “The chorus seems to mean something different to me each time I sing it. Sometimes a shock, a deep loss, a painful reminder, an acceptance, a coming to terms with, a finality, a longing, an assertiveness, a future, a determinedness. As such a change would at different times of reflection. It’s not just a love or relationship lost but a physical place – a space and time that was all encompassing and is now gone.”
Shot and directed by Vince Lamberti (Bus Stop: Best Short Film 2011 Fist Full of Films Festival), the video clip is a visual expression of the song. “It’s documenting the loss of the spaces that vanish with drastic change and the accompanying pain and sadness,” explains Shelley. “It also touches on the positives of the growth and gains that can come after loss.”
An engaged and passionate touring artist, Shelley is eager to be back in Australia and share her recent experiences on stage with her local fans. “I’m excited to be back in Aus and to share what I’ve built: A space to reflect on the everyday, to see the layers of meaning behind each experience and how they shape us and our world,” she enthuses.
Strange Feeling (2015) fits seamlessly in to Shelley’s impressive back catalogue of releases, from her internationally inspired pop album, An Easy Escape (2013) through to her folk-pop protest record, An Atheist Album (2012) and collaborative Jazz album with Adam Levy (Norah Jones, Tracy Chapman), Little March (2013). Shelley also wrote and recorded award-winning track, Chemistry, with DJ Carl Cox, which spent two weeks at #1 on the dance charts in 2011.
RÜFÜS DROP NEW SINGLE & VIDEO ‘LIKE AN ANIMAL’ AND ANNOUNCE ALBUM #2 TITLE ‘BLOOM’
Just weeks out from kicking off their first tour on home soil in over a year, RÜFÜS bring us Like An Animal, the second single from their forthcoming sophomore album set to be titled Bloom. The single is everything you wanted to hear from the Sydney trio, who continue to impress as they pioneer their own clever blend of melodic pop-euphoria.
The official video accompanying the release is a collaboration between director Katzki and visual artist Jack Vanzet. It is the band’s most immersive video yet, a psychedelic journey of three friends to an instinct-driven paradise.
Iconically RÜFÜS, Like An Animal has hooks for days and we dare you not to sign along as they bring their live show back to AUS. You can catch RÜFÜS playing a number of shows around the country this October where they’ll be joined by Sweat It Out mainstay Cassian, and breakout duo YUMA X, before they venture abroad for their North American Tour (full list of dates below).
Like An Animal is the second bite of the forthcoming RÜFÜS LP, Bloom, and while we can’t tell you too much about the album just yet (release date // tracklist TBA), we sat lead singer Tyrone Lindqvist down to fill you in a little more. ”We just put all the cliches about second albums out of our minds and tried to write something that we would want to listen to right now,” he says. “The title came pretty easily, even before we finished the album we knew we wanted to call it Bloom. It fitted where we were at with the music, and also where we were at creatively.”
Like An Animal will be available via Sweat It Out Music on September 25
Further details on album #2, Bloom coming soon
