ELLA HOOPER ANNOUNCES TUESDAY NIGHT JUNE RESIDENCY AT THE TOFF ALONGSIDE TEXTURE LIKE SUN
Off the back of the success of her packed out Haxan single launch at The Workers Club earlier this month, Melbourne songstress Ella Hooper has announced a June residency at The Toff In Town, supported weekly by special guests, Texture Like Sun.
To celebrate her new Tarantino-esque solo workings, Ella will perform the songs from her forthcoming solo album, In Tongues every Tuesday night through June.
“A warming winter residency is the perfect way to introduce people to my solo album material, as it’s smoky and sultry and goes well with whisky,” laughs Ella. Excited about sharing the stage with Texture Like Sun, Ella goes on to say, “they’re super talented, soo very good at what they do and I think we compliment each other in a really nice harmonious way… it’s going to make Tuesday the highlight of every week!”
Ella and Texture Like Sun will also be supported by various local acts including:
4th June – Roscoe James Irwin
11th June – Ariela Jacobs
18th June – Krista Polvere
25th June – Gena Rose Bruce
Stay tuned to hear more about Ella’s debut solo album, In Tongues set for release later in the year.

BUCHANAN ANNOUNCE EAST COAST TOUR FOR JUNE/JULY
Melbourne band Buchanan have announced an east coast tour in June/July to promote their acclaimed debut album, Human Spring. The tour is set to kick off at The John Curtin Hotel on June 6 (supported by Harts and Clubfeet DJ’s) and will move through to Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney before finishing up in their home town for a show at The Workers Club.
“We’re incredibly excited to be taking this album on the road and to cities we’ve never played before as a band,” says lead singer Josh Simons. “The recorded versions of our songs have a lot going on, so for the live show we tore it apart, and honed in on what made each song special, building it back up from there. It’s a very energetic show!”
The new single and album title track, Human Spring has been getting some positive recognition in the music industry after being championed by Triple J and many other leading community stations around Australia. “Human Spring was one of the first songs written and in hindsight really is one of the centerpieces of the album. It certainly shows the album’s worth of colour in one song,” explains Simons.
Co-produced by Simons and Catherine Marks (Foals, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Kanye), the album Human Spring was recorded across seven different studios, with the bulk of the work done between Tender Trap studios in Northcote and Simons’ home garage studio. “I really wanted to evolve past the DIY production of our first couple of EPs,” explains Simons. And what better way to step it up than to have it mixed on an analogue desk by Andy Baldwin (Bjork, Midnight Juggernauts) and mastered by Geoff Pesche (Radiohead, Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem) at the world famous Abbey Road Studios.
Buchanan is Josh Simons (lead vocals, guitar and piano), Luke Shields (guitar), Miles de Carteret (bass) and Tom Crimmins (drums).

ANDREW SWIFT & THE RATTLESNAKE CHOIR ANNOUNCE NEW EP, UP WITH THE ANCHOR
Melbourne locals Andrew Swift & The Rattlesnake Choir have announced the release of a new EP, Up With The Anchor out June 28. They’ll be celebrating with an east coast tour playing the Palm Hotel (Gold Coast) June 23, Bendigo Hotel (Melb) June 29, an in-store performance at Fist2Face Records (Melb) June 30, and another hometown show at the John Curtin Hotel on August 4.
Having shared stages with Evermore, Matt Corby, The Paper Kites, Diesel and more, the band are no strangers to the live scene, “we’re not a smoke and mirrors kind of band, what you see is what you get, four guys who are passionate about music doing their thing live…we like to have a laugh, we’re there for a good time just as much as the audience is,” explains Swift.
The main theme of the EP follows the concept of being restless and wanting to escape to somewhere new, inspiring the song lyric and EP title Up With The Anchor.
Lead single Refer To The Atlas is a toe tapper and works as the perfect introduction to the EP with an engaging melody and a memorable hook. The video clip for the song was produced and directed by talented Melbourne digital arts agency, Dads Old Axe. “I was lucky enough to get the two Nicks from Dadsoldaxe on board and after hearing the song they presented me with a stop frame concept of a boat being pushed across a field… it was an exhausting day of boat pushing but the end result was definitely worth it,” jokes Swift.
