WAM ‘SONG OF THE YEAR’ WINNER, MORGAN BAIN ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE, WHY DON’T YOU STAY AND NATIONAL TOUR

Fresh off the back of a prestigious WA Music (WAM) Song Of The Year win last fortnight, esteemed Perth alternative soul tunesmith and multi-instrumentalist, Morgan Bain has announced the release of his new single, Why Don’t You Stay, alongside a national tour. Kicking off on the main stage at West Coast Blues’N’Roots (Fremantle) on March 29, alongside two Perth shows in April, the tour will then move through Adelaide, Melbourne, Tasmania, Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle and will finish up at Sydney Blues & Roots Festival (Windsor) on May 16.

Organ driven with rich and varied vocals, Bain’s self-described ‘alternative moody soul’ sound is perfectly showcased in the new single, Why Don’t You Stay. The track was recorded and produced at The Wastelands studio with ARIA award winning producer, Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe, Meg Mac, Little Birdy) and mastered by Grammy Award winner, William Bowden of King Willy Sound (Goyte, Eskimo Joe,Tim Finn, Empire of the Sun). Bain explains, “The song is about anxieties that come with giving your everything to someone and how to not let those anxious thoughts take over and get in the way of how you really feel.”

The video clip for the single was directed by Steve Browne (Scalphunter, Tired Lion, Timothy Nelson & The Infidels) and tastefully shot at Chris Huzzard studio. Dark, powerful and thought provoking, the clip depicts a young man’s internal conflict and anxiety about a situation. “The video is simple but complicated in an emotional way, just like the song and its concept,” says Bain.

With a song writing maturity well beyond his tender twenty years, Bain’s prolific songwriting talents have already been acknowledged on a global level several times this year, and a number of tracks off his latest EP, What You Believe (released mid 2014) are in this mix of accolades. Earlier this month, Bain was announced as a semi finalist in the US International Songwriting Competition (Unreleased song, Lost In The Moment), a finalist in the US John Lennon Songwriting Contest (EP track, In The Middle) and he also scooped his third WAM Song of The Year award (EP Track, Hold On) on March 21.

Working hard to make a name for himself and becoming known for his incredible vocals and live performances in his home state of WA, Bain is excited to take his show to a national audience. Hitting the road as a trio (guitar/keys/bass/drums), with funding from the WA Dept of Culture and The Arts, the tour will be “Jam-packed with alternative soul… it’s a pretty upbeat show, but does have light and shade.”

TASMANIAN FOLK ARTIST, HÉLOISE TO RELEASE NEW SINGLE, THIS IS HOME ALONGSIDE LAUNCH SHOW AT THE WORKERS CLUB

After taking home the major prize in Bank of Melbourne’s Victorian music initiative, Melbourne Music Bank 2014, eclectic folk songstress, Héloise is set to release her winning single, This Is Home on April 17. Héloise will be launching her single at The Workers Club on Thursday April 30, supported by Julz Evans and Amber Isles.

This Is Home was inspired by Héloise’s journey as a musician leaving her hometown of Tasmania to move her life to the big city of Melbourne. Her organic and unfettered folk sound, alongside her unique, quirky vocals complement the lyrics that express the feeling of being a stranger in a new city. “I absolutely love the creative culture in Melbourne and have been so inspired by this place I now call home,” she explains.

The video for This Is Home was shot and directed by acclaimed filmmaker and photographer, Wilk (Sarah Blasko, Ella Hooper, Spender). Set on a picturesque old V-line train in regional Victoria, the video takes the viewer on a journey that sees Héloise and a mysterious, handsome man inadvertently play a game of hide and seek through the train’s carriages. “It was so great to work with Wilk on this clip,” says Héloise, “he really managed to capture the playful, cheery nature of the song and put it in to visual form.”

Off the back of her spot on the Falls Festival (VIC) line up and her winning performance at the Melbourne Music Bank finale (Melbourne Recital Centre), Héloise is keen to jump back on stage and show everyone what she’s been up to over the past few months. “Through each performance, I like to take my audience on a quirky journey of imaginings,” she says. “I want them to meet creatures and characters, experience the elements and feel as if they’ve travelled through my cerebrum and caught a glimpse of someplace somewhere else.”

Héloise is set to release her debut EP later this year.

HAMISH ANDERSON ANNOUNCES x7 OFFICIAL SXSW SHOWCASES

Having recently shared stages with BB King, Los Lobos and Kenny Wayne Shepherd in the US, talented Melbourne blues/rock guitarist and prolific songwriter, Hamish Anderson has been invited to showcase his skills on a global stage announcing x7 official shows at the credible SXSW music festival in Austin Texas from March 17-22, with performances set for the iconic Aussie BBQ, Stubhub, direct support of Wynonna Judd and more.

Anderson is thrilled to be in on the SXSW action and is excited to be playing alongside his band for the festival comprised of veteran Austin talent, Johnny Radelat (drummer for Gary Clark Jr), John Branch (bassist for Spanish Gold) and Nate Basinger (organist for The Diplomats).

“For years I’ve been watching the emerging artists that play at SXSW and it’s so great to be part of it this year,” says Anderson. “It’s an honour to represent Australia’s music scene abroad.”

Anderson explains, “I really hope I have some time to check out a few shows while I’m there, but it looks like it may be tricky. I have seven shows and then a bunch of interviews and performances for media, so that will take up most of my time. We are also looking to record that week, so that’ll make things even tighter for me.”

Anderson is quickly becoming a fixture on the international circuit, having represented Australia with a number of showcases at last year’s CMJ Music Marathon in New York and will be following up his SXSW appearances with a number of additional shows in the US, followed by a showcase at Canadian Music Week in May.

And there’s some exciting news for Aussie fans also, with a video for new single, Little Lies coming out in the next few months and a tour on home turf to follow later in 2015.

“’Burn’ is the lead single from the new EP, and I love every moment of it. The bluesiest twangiest of riffs carries the track through, while Anderson’s rich voice hits every note with just the right amount of flirtatiousness, as each phrase coyly trails off into the music. His Masterful guitar and lyrical abilities are on display from start to end. A catchy, solid drumbeat, perfect rhythms and a wailing guitar solo – this piece is a rock ‘n roll romp through and through.”
Indie Shuffle (Lauren Ziegler)

“With Hendrix-inspired guitar riffs and extended solos, Anderson tore up the stage, simultaneously reviving and reinventing the blues.”
Beat Magazine (Dina Amin)

“He’s a talent that provides an exhibition that is addictive to watch, and gives total bang for your buck if you get the chance to witness it.”
The Music Melbourne Magazine (Izzy Tolhurst)
