GARRETT KATO RELEASES NEW ALBUM ‘THAT LOW AND LONESOME SOUND’ ALONGSIDE 27 DATE TOUR WITH PETE MURRAY

Canadian born, Byron Bay local Garrett Kato has today released his anticipated new record, That Low and Lonesome Sound, alongside the announcement of a 27 date tour opening for Pete Murray on his extensive regional, Yours Acoustically tour through October, November and December. Kato will also be hitting the road this month to play a run of album launch shows kick starting tonight at Brunswick Hotel in Brunswick Heads, Black Bear Lodge Brisbane on the 17th, The Vanguard Sydney on the 23rd and 303 Melbourne on September 26.

New single Headlights is an anthemic, toe-tapping folk rock, anti-love song. “I’ve always loved the idea of anti love songs and having a large group of people sing along to something other than ‘I love you babe,’” says Kato.

Recorded between Kato’s home studio and 301 Studios in Byron Bay, alongside Anthony Lycenko, That Low and Lonesome Sound was two years in the making with Kato recording most songs multiple times, explaining, “I just kept adjusting them and tending to them like my garden.” The result is a dynamic album full of texture and warmth. Kato’s smooth, dreamy melodies and exquisite harmonies create a feeling of nostalgia, weaving a rich tapestry of storytelling folk gems.

Written about Kato’s relocation from Canada to Australia, “the record focuses on the journey and personal battles of letting go of a past life,” he explains, “some songs have themes which stretch further into my past, but the majority are about my new life and love in Australia… it’s basically a personal diary of manhood and letting go.”

Pumped to tour the new record, Kato will be playing his first run of September shows with his full band and will then jump straight on the road solo to open for his local Byron mate Pete Murray. ”Playing solo with just my guitar is my most comfortable mode, I love breaking hearts if I can.”

TIM WHEATLEY ‘CAST OF YESTERDAY’ ALBUM CHARTS TOP 10

After a successful month long tour of Australia playing to packed out venues, Tim Wheatley is now heading back to LA to launch his debut solo record in his current hometown on the other side of the world. The Melbourne indie alt folk troubadour’s hard work has paid off, scoring the ultimate recognition from the industry, impressing fans and critics alike with his album, Cast Of Yesterday, with the album charting at number 9 on the weekend’s ARIA country music chart and number 18 on the Australian artists chart.

Thrilled with his impressive chart results, Wheatley says, “To land in the top 10 was astounding. I would never have imagined the response we’ve had to this record.”

“It was a hectic month of shows but looking back on it, I had a blast,” beams Wheatley. “The crowds were so receptive and I think doing it solo was such an effective way to re-introduce myself as I got to know so many people that way. It was a great chance to play the record and get a sense of everyone’s favourite songs, which I’ll now take back to the States before returning home for another tour in the summer, I can’t wait to get back!”

Cast of Yesterday was recorded at Sing Sing studios in Melbourne, produced by Paul McKercher (You Am I, Sarah Blasko, Pete Murray) and mixed by Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Johnny Cash) at Capitol Studios in Hollywood. Poetically titled, Cast of Yesterday, the album was written about a range of people from Wheatley’s past – friends, heroes and villains and is a dynamic collection of songs that is sure to surprise and delight. With an alt-folk, indie Australiana and at times country feel, Cast Of Yesterday is packed with memorable melodies and a signature smooth vocal, all the while showcasing Wheatley’s impressive songwriting ability.

“Bask in the album’s warmth by giving it a listen. You won’t be disappointed” Aphra Magazine
“This is an artist who knows himself, who’s come out the other side of alter egos (Crooked Saint) and bands (Rushcutter, The Sparrows) and figured out the kind of music he needs to make. And it’s wonderful” Sounds of Oz
“The album is a carousel of rich narratives and evocative lyrics” Beat Magazine
“Nothing seems forced. It gently sucks you in. It’s not over-produced; the focus is on the singer, the song and the stories” Stack Magazine

THE PAPER KITES’ NEW ALBUM ‘twelvefour’ IS OUT NOW!

Melbourne indie folksters, The Paper Kites have today released, twelvefour, the anticipated follow up album to their acclaimed debut LP, States. The quintet will be celebrating the release with an extensive national twelvefour tour hitting Adelaide at The Gov on October 15 and moving through Perth, Margaret River, Castlemaine, Melbourne, Geelong, Maroochydore, Gold Coast, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney and Canberra, finishing up in Thirroul on November 8.

“We are super excited to release our sophomore album, Twelvefour,” enthuses lead vocalist and songwriter Sam Bentley. “We’re getting psyched to tour these songs, and share the music with you!”

The album is a concept record based around a theory that an artist’s creative peak is between the hours of midnight and 4am, and saw Bentley spend two sleepless months reversing his sleep patterns to pen thirty songs in his home studio between 12 and 4am, of which ten made the cut for album number two. “It was wild to write until you are so tired that nothing sounded too over-worked – songs didn’t feel restricted by a commonly analytical brain,” Bentley explains.

‘twelvefour’ is a dynamic, cohesive and generous offering with a fresh sonic direction for The Paper Kites, while ensuring fans are kept on-side by loading this work of art with trademark lush melodies, ethereal harmonies and a gentle, intoxicating delivery sure to please. The rich production and exceptional musicianship demonstrate a new level of maturity from the band and further complement this dreamy, atmospheric record that oozes late night feels.

“This record is the sound of five people trying to make something they’re proud of. And we really are,” says Bentley.

The Paper Kites is made up of Sam Bentley, Christina Lacy, David Powys, Josh Bentley and Sam Rasmussen
