THE PAPER KITES ANNOUNCE TOUR SUPPORTS, GEORGIA FAIR AND ROBBIE MILLER
Melbourne folk quintet The Paper Kites have announced fellow homegrown heroes Georgia Fair and Robbie Miller to join them on the road for their national ‘States’ tour, set to kick off at The Small Ballroom in Newcastle on August 30, the same date the band’s debut album, States will be released.
“We’re really excited to head out on tour with Georgia Fair and Robbie Miller. Both acts are top class and we’re looking forward to getting acquainted and having some fun while travelling around together,” says The Paper Kites’ drummer Josh Bentley.
After showcasing their new material on the world stage at SXSW in Austin Texas earlier this year, fellow Melburnians Georgia Fair have just released their new single, Love Free Me and are excited to be supporting The Paper Kites on tour ahead of the release of their new album, Trapped Flame.
Robbie Miller is set to drop his debut EP later this year after having won the prestigious Triple J Unearthed National Indigenous Music Award for 2013. With influences drawn from Cat Stevens, Van Morrison and Neil Young, Miller will be the perfect opening act for The Paper Kites and Georgia Fair.
Upon completion of the national States tour, The Paper Kites will head to America for their first international dates to support City and Colour’s National US tour.
The Paper Kites’ debut album States is available for pre-order now and purchasers will receive an instant download of the band’s forthcoming second single, Young when they pre-order the album from iTunes or JB HI FI.

THE PAPER KITES DEBUT ALBUM ‘STATES’ TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 30, PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE NOW
Melbourne indie folk five-piece, The Paper Kites have announced the release of their debut album, States set for August 30, available for digital pre-order now. The band will be promoting the album with a national headline tour of Australia through August and September.
Produced by The Paper Kites alongside ARIA award winning producer Wayne Connolly (You Am I, Josh Pyke), the emotionally intense and harmony drenched States will take the listener on a journey of delicate, folk-inspired landscapes with rich lyrics and a raw sonic beauty.
Following on from the band’s first two EP’s, Woodland and Young North, States sees the quintet put a moodier slant on their signature melodic sound. “The album is a lot darker than a lot of our previous work,” says lead singer and guitarist Sam Bentley. “We really pushed our soundscapes and composition. I’m interested in the things beyond a song: textures, adding strings, brass, touches like that. The strange little noises are what sets this album apart from what we’ve done before and puts it on a whole different level.”
This eclectically sincere finish, evident on music-box and horn laden single St Clarity, runs right through the LP – from the hazy psychedelic chords of Living Colour through to the rough and ready, messy rock stylings of A Lesson From Mr Gray.
As an added bonus for fans, the band have created an album trailer that can be viewed on their official YouTube channel which has collectively amassed almost 7 million views:: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOpZPzaHquU
States is available for pre-order from today. Purchasers will receive an instant download of the band’s forthcoming second single, Young when they pre-order the album on iTunes or JB HI FI.
Upon the release of States, The Paper Kites will embark on their national headline tour throughout late August/September before heading to America for their first international dates to support City and Colour’s National US Tour.

The Paper Kites announce new album alongside national tour for September
Melbourne indie folk quintet, The Paper Kites have announced the release of their new single, St Clarity and will be celebrating with a national headline tour of Australia through August and September. The tour will kick off in Newcastle and head on through Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle and Hobart before finishing up with a second and final homecoming show at The Forum.
Having won over tens of thousands of fans across the globe with their first two EP’s Woodlands and Young North, The Paper Kites have also announced news of their highly anticipated debut album, States revealing the album is slated for a late August release.
Produced by The Paper Kites, alongside ARIA winning producer Wayne Connolly (You Am I, Josh Pyke) at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios and Sydney’s iconic Alberts, St Clarity is the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming LP. Kicking off with a lone banjo before moving through to a beautiful blend of harmonies, music boxes and horns, it becomes obvious from the get go that St Clarity boasts all the alluring textures they’re best known for and more. Frontman Sam Bentley explains the lyrical meaning behind the song saying, “At its heart, the song is about the beauty of finding clarity in a situation, seeing things from a perspective that’s clear – from an angle you haven’t seen before.” The video for St Clarity was filmed by two-time ARIA winning director, Natasha Pincus the mastermind behind Gotye’s Grammy-winning chart-topper, Somebody That I Used To Know, however this clip was not the reason the band wanted to work with Pincus. “I was initially attracted to her work surprisingly not from the Gotye video, but when I watched her talking on a panel about how important it is to tell a story, to bring the audience in to something,” explains Bentley. The clip follows a narrative that highlights the fact that there is beauty to be found in life’s simple things. Starring French artist Sylvain Letuvée, Sam clarifies why he was drawn to the artist, “I found Sylvain’s work accidentally when stumbling around the internet, and I was fascinated by the sheer size of the bubbles he was making.”
Having crossed the country a number of times in the last year on both their own headline tours and in support of Bombay Bicycle Club, Josh Pyke and Boy & Bear, The Paper Kites have built up a loyal, word-of-mouth fan-base. This extensive touring coupled with the success of their tunes Bloom, Featherstone and A Maker Of My Time has seen their live following skyrocket. Throw over six million YouTube views and the band’s memorable live performances in to the mix and they’re now looking at a whole new level of demand with their Spring tour set to be their biggest dates yet. Then straight after the Aussie tour, the band will be jetting over to the US to perform their first shows on American turf, playing the main support for City And Colour’s major national The Hurry and The Harm US Tour.
