PERTH ARTIST ANNA O SET TO IMPRESS WITH DEBUT SINGLE AND EP
Exciting Perth newcomer Anna O is set to impress with her new single, Sleepless and debut EP, When The Winter Came set for release on March 21, ahead of her launch gig at Four5Nine Bar in North Perth on March 22.
Fans of artists such as Kimbra, Lorde and Jessie Ware should all keep an ear out for Anna O, as she bursts on to the scene with her edgy and catchy keys driven tune, Sleepless. With an instant hook and a notable melody, Anna O’s bold vocals draw you in and will leave you singing the song long after its end.
Written about insomnia, the lyrics focus on not being able to get to sleep and the frustration and mind chatter that goes on. “The chorus explores the idea of the ‘choir’ of mind chatter, basically touching on how crazy it is to think about all the people laying awake with their mind going crazy, and what we’d all sound like together,” explains Anna O.
Filmed on location at Perth City Farm, the video clip for Sleepless was directed and edited by Si Moore from Bayly&Moore and shot by Cameron Frost from Frost Productions. “The bare whiteness of the warehouse and me alone is representative of the feeling of isolation and frustration when you can’t sleep. And the slow mo wild party signifies the ‘choir of sleepless minds,’” explains Anna O.
Having studied at WAAPA and done some co-writing with local Perth artists, it wasn’t until recently that Anna O started writing her own songs and Sleepless was the second song she ever wrote. “I got into it because I didn’t just want to sing other people’s songs for the rest of my life,” she says. “From previous attempts I honestly thought I was rubbish at writing but knew it was necessary. As soon as I started, I couldn’t stop. My brain is always thinking in songs these days!”
With a hugely hyped live show, Anna O is amped to take to the stage and share her new material. “I can’t wait to get out of the studio and start playing my songs to people. I’ve got a DJ opening for me and I’m pumped to make it a slamming party,” enthuses Anna O.

LESTER THE FIERCE ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE, HOWL AND SELF-TITLED EP
Melbourne alt abstract pop artist, Lester The Fierce has announced the release of her new single, Howl lifted from her forthcoming self-titled EP due out September 13. To celebrate the new material, Lester The Fierce will be hitting the road with her band to support Ngaiire on her twelve-date Lamentations national tour set to kick off at Oxford Art Factory on September 12.
Lester The Fierce is a combination of Anita Lester and her alter ego imagined from a children’s book hero. The prolific singer songwriter manages to touch on everything in her songs from love, sex, death and the weather. Lester has been a silent fixture in the Australian music scene for years and has become known for her haunting and unmistakably unique voice.
Lead single, Howl is influenced by female driven bands of the 90s, such as Garbage & Hole and the song’s poetic lyrics speak of a frustrated love. “It’s about my family and the boy I love. It’s about the frustration you sometimes feel at the people closest to you,” explains Lester. With its penetrative bass line and immediate hook, Howl is guaranteed to swiftly hijack your attention, but watch on as its intricacies draw you in, discovering more with each listen.
The EP was recorded over five days at Hot House in Melbourne with notable film score producer Jonathan Dreyfus at the helm. Dreyfus’ filmic sensibilities fuse tastefully with Lester’s rock/pop style, masterfully bringing the songs to life. “The filmic aspect is a welcomed influence to my music and it carries through the whole EP,” says Lester. Speaking fondly of the release, she goes on to explain, “the EP feels like a spark of lust caused a fire of love. I didn’t know I needed to do it until it was done.”
Perfectly complementing the song is an equally cool, abstract film clip conceptualised and crafted by Melbourne’s Superteam Studios and Yoav Lester. The black and white clip follows a series of people falling and flying gracefully in slow motion, as an emotionally charged Lester belts out the song.

ANDREW SWIFT & THE RATTLESNAKE CHOIR ANNOUNCE NEW EP, UP WITH THE ANCHOR
Melbourne locals Andrew Swift & The Rattlesnake Choir have announced the release of a new EP, Up With The Anchor out June 28. They’ll be celebrating with an east coast tour playing the Palm Hotel (Gold Coast) June 23, Bendigo Hotel (Melb) June 29, an in-store performance at Fist2Face Records (Melb) June 30, and another hometown show at the John Curtin Hotel on August 4.
Having shared stages with Evermore, Matt Corby, The Paper Kites, Diesel and more, the band are no strangers to the live scene, “we’re not a smoke and mirrors kind of band, what you see is what you get, four guys who are passionate about music doing their thing live…we like to have a laugh, we’re there for a good time just as much as the audience is,” explains Swift.
The main theme of the EP follows the concept of being restless and wanting to escape to somewhere new, inspiring the song lyric and EP title Up With The Anchor.
Lead single Refer To The Atlas is a toe tapper and works as the perfect introduction to the EP with an engaging melody and a memorable hook. The video clip for the song was produced and directed by talented Melbourne digital arts agency, Dads Old Axe. “I was lucky enough to get the two Nicks from Dadsoldaxe on board and after hearing the song they presented me with a stop frame concept of a boat being pushed across a field… it was an exhausting day of boat pushing but the end result was definitely worth it,” jokes Swift.
