MAYA ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO BLACKOUT
After a massive 2017, neo-soul vocalist Maya is back with a stellar new single Blackout, about a moment forever lost in time, out now. Produced by the renowned Joel Quartermain (Eskimo Joe, Meg Mac, British India), Blackout is an exciting addition to Maya’s impressive discography. The young artist has also dropped a video to accompany the track, directed by Grace Moore.
Blackout is ominous, and intuitive – as though Maya knows something we all don’t, and she’s trying to let us know. Her flawless vocals sit atop a motivated rhythm section with urgency and skill, as her lyrics persuade the listener to pay attention. Joel Quartermain’s expert touch has propelled Blackout into a whole new dimension for Maya, and as her star begins to rise one can only wonder what’s to follow. Speaking on the creation of the track, Maya says, “Releasing this single has got to be one of the most exciting times of my career. Blackout means so much to me lyrically and I feel like the production is the next step sound that really represents my aesthetic…Most people have ‘blacked out’ before, whether it’s when they drink, if they black out a bad memory, or if they just forget certain things. This song takes you through my perspective and how I felt when it happened to me – it was inspired by so many moments of blackout in myself that I still fight everyday.”
The video is as striking as the track itself. Dramatic lighting cloaks Maya and her sisters, as Maya tries to navigate her own personal blackout. Maya was specific about her goals for the video, as she reflects, “The Blackout video shows a cross between the dark reality and positive space. It captures a representation of the dark energies that are felt in those fragile times, juxtaposed with a bright, welcoming space that leads to happiness. The video, set the morning after the night before, features the Blackout Girls chasing me out of my dark memories until finally I arrive at a space where there is no black. There I’m free from the watchful eyes of the blackout, and surrounded by positivity and light.”
With three hometown shows coming up, these intimate gigs are Maya’s element, and fans are lucky enough to be able to catch her before she jets off to New York City to continue writing with world-class musicians over there, as she enthuses, “I have been working with many writers and producers in NYC on my next project, and I’ve been writing a lot and am now just doing the final touches on some seriously felt and fresh music. I’ll be doing more writing in Australia, and working on production of the tracks I already have written in New York. Some more release this year, and an EP toward the end of the year, with a full insight into my new sound.”
Blackout is out now.

Come Together Recharged is back and ready to rock out over two massive weekends in June. Kicking off on Sunday June 10 at Sydney’s world-famous Big Top Luna Park, then moving to Nightquarter at the Gold Coast on Saturday June 30, Come Together Recharged is getting back to the festival’s rock music roots, after presenting some of the most memorable hiphop and indie music lineups in Australia since 2005. And who better to lead the charge on a rock-focused lineup than the mighty Spiderbait. Organisers are stoked to present six straight hours of high-energy, homegrown rock, back at the home of fun, Sydney’s Big Top at Luna Park and at the renowned Gold Coast venue Nightquarter at Helensvale. Aside from an exclusive set from Spiderbait, this stellar lineup includes legends The Superjesus, Mammal, Osaka Punch, and thrilling newcomers RACKETT.
Undoubtedly one of Australia’s favourite live bands, Spiderbait have made history as the first Australian band to ever top triple j’s Hottest 100 with their hit Buy Me A Pony. Since then, they’ve collected numerous ARIAs and secured their place as one of the greatest live power trios of all time. Spiderbait’s greatest hits set at Come Together Recharged will be the band’s only Sydney show for 2018, as well as their first Gold Coast show in many, many years – so fans had best secure their tickets now!

Speaking of killer live acts, next up on this kickass lineup are Melbourne’s own modern rock monsters Mammal who are back after a hiatus and exciting as ever, with two brand new songs Community (out now) & Virtue Signalling are ready to bring their high energy punk, funk and rock to fans new and old.

BRITISH INDIA ANNOUNCE ‘MIDNIGHT HOMIE’ NATIONAL SINGLE TOUR FOR MAY/JUNE
Less than a year since the release of their latest album, the explosive Forgetting The Future, British India are thrilled to announce they’ll be returning to stages around the country in May and June on the Midnight Homie Tour that will kick off in Bendigo on May 11 and continue through regional and metropolitan cities in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, before finishing up at The Gov in Adelaide on July 6.
With raging guitars, seriously provocative lyrics and a palpable energy that confidently struts through the track’s entirety, there is little wonder Midnight Homie has quickly become a fan favourite on the album and the live stage. It was twisted alt-rock warlord Lou Reed who once said, “My week beats your year”, but British India have upped those stakes on their new single, touting, “My night is better than your whole life.” Armed with the precision rock stylings of the new record, plus a bulging back catalogue of Australian live favourites – think Hottest 100 dominating tracks like Vanilla, I Can Make You Love Me and Suddenly – Australia’s most loved indie rockers are here to prove the snarling intention behind that arrogant claim.
The song’s themes are portrayed through striking animations in the Midnight Homie lyric video, highlighting career-best lyricism from vocalist and lyricist, Declan Melia; it is introspective yet has the relatability to resonate with the masses.
Forgetting The Future is British India’s sixth studio album and its innovative direction has been met with widespread applause, including leading the band to sign an international licensing deal with NYC indie label, AntiFragile. The LP debuted at #12 on the ARIA Albums Chart and previous singles, My Love and Precious were both added to high rotation on triple j, with My Love also scoring the most played track on Triple M in its first week.
Over the course of their impressive career, British India have earned four Top 10 ARIA albums, eight entries into the Hottest 100 and their classic single I Can Make You Love Me is accredited Gold in Australia.
Be sure to catch the legendary Melbourne rockers doing what they do best on a stage near you this May and June.
British India is Declan Melia (vocals and guitar), Nic Wilson (lead guitar), Will Drummond (bass) and Matt O’Gorman (drums).
Tickets to the national tour are on sale now.
