THOMAS KEATING ANNOUNCES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO TODAY I’M STAYING HOME + PETE MURRAY NSW SUPPORT
Troubadour Thomas Keating has today announced his introverted new single Today I’m Staying Home, a comforting ode to self-care during times of stress and uncertainty, out February 1 Thomas has also announced a lovely clip to accompany the track, filmed during the recording process of the single, offering rare insight into the private world of an artist in the studio. Thomas will be celebrating the release of the single with launch gigs in Sydney at The Newsagency on February 8, and Melbourne at Red Betty on February 9. To cap it off, Thomas has also been announced as the main support act on a very special run of NSW shows with one of Australia’s most loved songwriters, Pete Murray, kicking off at Bateman’s Bay Soldier’s Club on January 16, then moving though Merimbula, Narrabeen, Newcastle, Miranda, and wrapping up in Wollongong at Waves on February 2.
As vulnerable and open as a diary entry, Today I’m Staying Home is musically reminiscent of Matt Corby’s acoustic textures, or even Vance Joy’s vivid lyrical imagery – yet Thomas still manages to craft a world that’s completely his own. Gentle guitar pulses atop a bed of driving percussion, as Thomas’ one-of-a-kind vocals take centrestage. Thrilled to be releasing this special track, Thomas explains the inspiration behind the track, “Today I’m Staying Home is inspired by one of those mornings where you wake up with the ‘f*ck its’, and you decide instead of leaving your bed or home to face your life and all the responsibilities that come with being an adult in this world, you just stay in. I’ve always struggled with bouts of depression and anxiety around the uncertainties and pressures of everyday life, and I guess at the time I wrote the song I was going through such a phase. I think it’s important to remember that at times it’s okay just to feel like shit – it’s okay to put your hand up and say ‘I’m not dealing with this very well. I need help’. Mental health is extremely self-alienating, and I’d like to think that we are moving past the stigma of shame that has hung around such ailments for far too long.”
The clip for Today I’m Staying Home feels like a private performance, straight from the artist to the listener. The studio is warm, and there’s something refreshing about seeing Thomas is his element, skillfully and candidly playing guitar, singing the track and listening back to his work. Describing the reason for the studio-centric clip, Thomas explains, “I’ve always struggled with being comfortable shooting typical music videos, you know, pretending to sing into the camera as the song plays, for example. So we just decided to bring the cameras and lighting into the recording sessions, and my friend Kieran Gilfeather shot and directed it for us over a couple of days. He followed the band and myself around the studio as we put the song together, so the clip is real – what you are seeing is actual takes of us putting the song down. It was such a comfortable way to make a video.”
In light of the new single, Thomas is set to wow audiences with two very special, very intimate headline shows in February, and an exclusive run of solo shows alongside Pete Murray in NSW. “I’ve worked really hard on the live show this year and I’m really happy with where it’s at,” enthuses Thomas. “From a young age I was really inspired by the type of guitar playing made popular by Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel and Mark Knopfler…I like to do solo sets and also playing with the band. Both have their challenges. A lot of time and effort goes into creating even just one song, so having the opportunity to share your efforts with others is really something special. It feels fantastic to be releasing new music.”
Today I’m Staying Home is out February 1.

THE PAPER KITES ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR
Melbourne indie folk outfit The Paper Kites have had a mammoth 2018 so far; with their song Bloom officially certified Gold in the US, Canada, Italy, Netherlands, NZ and Australia, and the release of two gorgeous LPs, On The Train Ride Home and On The Corner Where You Live, to widespread critical acclaim. To celebrate all things The Paper Kites, they have announced the Where You Live tour – a massive run of Australian shows for early 2019, kicking off on February 28 at Molo Live in Canberra, before moving through Newcastle, Sydney, Adelaide, Perth, Dunsborough, Miami, Brisbane, and wrapping up with a performance at Melbourne’s iconic Forum Theatre on March 23.
After announcing an enormous US/EU tour earlier this year, which will see the group playing shows from San Diego to Seattle, from Vancouver to New York and everywhere in between during November/December 2018, The Paper Kites are thrilled to announce some shows back on home soil, as bassist Sam Rasmussen enthuses, “It has been way too long since we have had the opportunity to tour our home country. We are looking forward to visiting some of our favourite cities. We have been rehearsing for the upcoming tours and the way t the new album is translating live is getting us really excited!”
The Paper Kites (which also includes frontman Sam Bentley, vocalist Christina Lacy, guitarist Dave Powys, and drummer Josh Bentley) have earned a loyal, organic fan base all across the world. With monumental streaming numbers, 200 shows across the world in just under 3 years and recent Gold accreditation around the world, including the US with nearly 700,000 copies of their track Bloom being sold in the States alone, The Paper Kites are Australia’s quiet achievers, and their world class songwriting prowess shines on On The Corner Where You Live. Thrilled to bring On The Corner Where You Live to life on the upcoming Australian tour, Christina says, “After spending so much time touring and recording overseas over the past few years we are so happy to finally bring these new songs home to Australia. We can’t wait to head back to some of our favourite cities around the country and share this new album with our home crowd!”
On The Corner Where You Live is co-produced with Grammy-winner Peter Katis (Interpol, The National) at his studio in Connecticut – a 120-year old Victorian era home that the band lived and recorded in for 5 weeks. Lead vocalist Sam spoke of the moment the album’s concept clicked together, saying “It’s a collection of stories about these characters all living in an apartment building; I wanted to capture moments, feelings, it’s about people and their stories.” This album is one best listened to from start to finish, as each story seeps into the next; meditative yet complex, On The Corner Where You Live will not disappoint The Paper Kites’ loyal fanbase, and will enamour new and existing audiences alike. Immersed in an aural diet of blues and jazz, the band collaborated with Los Angeles film-noir artist Gina Higgins on the album’s artwork, who also painted the cover for On The Train Ride Home and worked closely with the band on the concept.
Pre-sale tickets to the Where You Live national tour are on sale from Tuesday October 30 at 2pm AEDT until Wednesday October 31 at 11.59pm AEDT. General public tickets go on sale Thursday November 1 at 9am AEDT.

RÜFÜS DU SOL ANNOUNCE SELL OUT SHOWS, SECOND SHOWS ANNOUNCED
What a huge week it’s been for Australia’s own RÜFÜS DU SOL. After dropping their anticipated third LP Solace last Friday, the trio announced their biggest Aussie tour yet on Monday, and this morning their epic run of shows just got even bigger with Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth selling out within minutes of going on sale this morning. To graciously satisfy the demand from their eager and loyal fanbase, the guys have announced second shows in Melbourne at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Valentine’s Day Thursday February 14, Perth at Fremantle Arts Centre on Sunday February 24 and Brisbane at Riverstage on Sunday March 3. Massive venues, massive tracks; this tour is set to be the Aussie live music event of the new year.
Blown away by the intensity of the swift sell outs, the band are even more pumped to bring their tour to home shores, with Tyrone Lindqvist enthusing, “It felt strange not to play in Australia for so long, but we wanted to come back with an entirely new show for everyone on our own terms. We never even anticipated having this many people want to come and see the show, we are legitimately blown away, we got the news right as we stepped on stage for the first show of the Solace tour. We walked on thinking about how exciting these shows at home are gonna be. Australian crowds are amazing to us.”
Solace follows RÜFÜS DU SOL’s previous two platinum-certified albums ATLAS and Bloom, and is an album that is as sonically rich as it is emotionally intelligent. The Australian three-piece, comprised of members Tyrone Lindqvist, Jon George and James Hunt, have explored new territory on Solace; born out of a particularly poignant period for the band, it tackles heavier themes such as the pain of loss and the persistence of memory. This is unequivocally the group’s most sophisticated work to date.
The Australian Solace tour follows a rigorous two-year world tour which saw the band perform everywhere from legendary California festival Coachella, to Serbia’s EXIT. This intensive period of touring helped pave the way for the Solace live show, crafted through years of varied live experience for the band. Giving fans a rare insight into what to expect for the upcoming tour, Tyrone says, “This new show has allowed us to be able to take people on an inner journey and to get lost in the depths of Solace. It’s the most ambitious live experience we’ve put together yet.”
The brand new live show will push the band’s on-stage abilities to new levels. With an emphasis on jamming and live improvisation, the trio will bring the magical spontaneity of their studio process to the stage in an unprecedented format. Bringing a host of new analog gear into the fold, as well as a revamped visual setup, the new live show will allow for each RÜFÜS DU SOL performance to be sonically distinct. Of the upcoming shows, Jon says, “Some of our favourite moments have been at these outdoor venues. These live experiences just bring everyone together – whether you’re losing your friends, or finding new ones, but being so content in dancing and connecting with the music and the band on stage. We really hope to bring those moments and create that emotional connection over the summer.”
General public tickets to all shows are on sale now, Friday October 26.
