The Paper Kites announce new album alongside national tour for September

Melbourne indie folk quintet, The Paper Kites have announced the release of their new single, St Clarity and will be celebrating with a national headline tour of Australia through August and September. The tour will kick off in Newcastle and head on through Sydney, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Melbourne, Adelaide, Fremantle and Hobart before finishing up with a second and final homecoming show at The Forum.

Having won over tens of thousands of fans across the globe with their first two EP’s Woodlands and Young North, The Paper Kites have also announced news of their highly anticipated debut album, States revealing the album is slated for a late August release.
Produced by The Paper Kites, alongside ARIA winning producer Wayne Connolly (You Am I, Josh Pyke) at Melbourne’s Sing Sing Studios and Sydney’s iconic Alberts, St Clarity is the first single to be lifted from the forthcoming LP. Kicking off with a lone banjo before moving through to a beautiful blend of harmonies, music boxes and horns, it becomes obvious from the get go that St Clarity boasts all the alluring textures they’re best known for and more. Frontman Sam Bentley explains the lyrical meaning behind the song saying, “At its heart, the song is about the beauty of finding clarity in a situation, seeing things from a perspective that’s clear – from an angle you haven’t seen before.” The video for St Clarity was filmed by two-time ARIA winning director, Natasha Pincus the mastermind behind Gotye’s Grammy-winning chart-topper, Somebody That I Used To Know, however this clip was not the reason the band wanted to work with Pincus. “I was initially attracted to her work surprisingly not from the Gotye video, but when I watched her talking on a panel about how important it is to tell a story, to bring the audience in to something,” explains Bentley. The clip follows a narrative that highlights the fact that there is beauty to be found in life’s simple things. Starring French artist Sylvain Letuvée, Sam clarifies why he was drawn to the artist, “I found Sylvain’s work accidentally when stumbling around the internet, and I was fascinated by the sheer size of the bubbles he was making.”
Having crossed the country a number of times in the last year on both their own headline tours and in support of Bombay Bicycle Club, Josh Pyke and Boy & Bear, The Paper Kites have built up a loyal, word-of-mouth fan-base. This extensive touring coupled with the success of their tunes Bloom, Featherstone and A Maker Of My Time has seen their live following skyrocket. Throw over six million YouTube views and the band’s memorable live performances in to the mix and they’re now looking at a whole new level of demand with their Spring tour set to be their biggest dates yet. Then straight after the Aussie tour, the band will be jetting over to the US to perform their first shows on American turf, playing the main support for City And Colour’s major national The Hurry and The Harm US Tour.

BUCHANAN ANNOUNCE EAST COAST TOUR FOR JUNE/JULY

Melbourne band Buchanan have announced an east coast tour in June/July to promote their acclaimed debut album, Human Spring.  The tour is set to kick off at The John Curtin Hotel on June 6 (supported by Harts and Clubfeet DJ’s) and will move through to Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sydney before finishing up in their home town for a show at The Workers Club.

“We’re incredibly excited to be taking this album on the road and to cities we’ve never played before as a band,” says lead singer Josh Simons.  “The recorded versions of our songs have a lot going on, so for the live show we tore it apart, and honed in on what made each song special, building it back up from there. It’s a very energetic show!”

The new single and album title track, Human Spring has been getting some positive recognition in the music industry after being championed by Triple J and many other leading community stations around Australia.  “Human Spring was one of the first songs written and in hindsight really is one of the centerpieces of the album.  It certainly shows the album’s worth of colour in one song,” explains Simons.

Co-produced by Simons and Catherine Marks (Foals, Death Cab for Cutie, Interpol, Kanye), the album Human Spring was recorded across seven different studios, with the bulk of the work done between Tender Trap studios in Northcote and Simons’ home garage studio.  “I really wanted to evolve past the DIY production of our first couple of EPs,” explains Simons.  And what better way to step it up than to have it mixed on an analogue desk by Andy Baldwin (Bjork, Midnight Juggernauts) and mastered by Geoff Pesche (Radiohead, Coldplay, LCD Soundsystem) at the world famous Abbey Road Studios.

Buchanan is Josh Simons (lead vocals, guitar and piano), Luke Shields (guitar), Miles de Carteret (bass) and Tom Crimmins (drums).
