BOB EVANS ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘FULL CIRCLE’ SET FOR OCTOBER 5 RELEASE, PRE-ORDER HERE FEATURING NEW SINGLE ‘DROWNING’ & SHOWCASING AN EXTENSIVE BODY OF WORK + NATIONAL TOUR FOR OCT / NOV

Five studio albums down the track and the distinguished career of Bob Evans receives the Best Of treatment via new album, Full Circle, to be released on October 5. Full Circle features a brand new single, Drowning and is accompanied by a video filmed in studio by Arlo Cook during the recording of the track. To celebrate the release, Bob Evans will hit the road for a national capital cities tour kicking off at Black Bear Lodge in Brisbane on October 19, and moving through to Sydney, Adelaide and Perth, before finishing up at Northcote Social Club in Melbourne on November 3.

Discussing Full Circle, Kevin Mitchell explains, “I didn’t want to approach this like a traditional Greatest Hits or Best Of. I like the idea of it being presented more like an introduction to my work if you had never heard of me. This would be the record for that person. So I didn’t want to just bundle the singles together or present the songs in the order they were released. Some singles didn’t make the cut, in favour of album tracks that have grown legs of their own and found some kind of special place of significance without ever necessarily being on the radio or anything. Wintersong, for example, off my third album, was never on the radio or well known but I just love it so much I wanted it on there. There were a few songs I felt like that about but obviously I couldn’t put them all in. It was quite hard actually, trying to narrow 5 albums down to 14 tracks. But I’m happy with how it looks. I’m proud of what I’ve managed to create.”

Mitchell was already under the Australian music spotlight as singer/guitarist for indie-rock-darlings Jebediah when in 1998 he found a t-shirt in a Perth op-shop with the number 15 on the back, and the name ‘Bob Evans’ printed on the front. Coincidentally at this time he was embarking on his first solo shows in Perth and a random name on someone’s discarded basketball shirt took hold. He may have grown out of the t-shirt, but the name fit and has stayed for an impressive solo career.

“This Bob Evans guy has been hitching a ride in my life for 20 years,” Mitchell laughs. “It’s an unusual relationship to have with something that isn’t real.”

Five years into playing solo shows, the first Bob Evans album, Suburban Kid, emerged in 2003, released via Jebediah’s own Redline Records label. While it didn’t receive much attention outside of WA, it started a new momentum for Mitchell’s solo career, with EMI signing him up for his second LP, Suburban Songbook, recorded in Nashville. Led by the much loved single, Don’t You Think It’s Time?, it set a new career path in motion.

“When Suburban Songbook came out and it was embraced and was successful, I had this whole new kind of career,” Mitchell recalls. “It really saved my arse because at the time Jebediah were kind of just burnt out and taking a break, and I… can’t do anything else.”

With Suburban Songbook winning Mitchell an ARIA Award for ‘Best Adult Contemporary Album’, 2009’s Goodnight, Bull Creek! saw him return to record the last of his ‘suburban trilogy’ in Nashville. He recalls moving on from Suburban Songbook being on par with Jebediah following up Slightly Odway, their smash hit 1997 debut LP. “It was an unexpected success, certainly more than I had expected,” he says. “It’s a strange mental game, making music after that and all of a sudden you’ve got this massive audience you’ve never had before.”

2013 saw the release of Familiar Stranger, with Mitchell wanting to make a record “that sounded nothing like any other Bob Evans record I’d made. I didn’t want to make an acoustic or singer/songwriter album, none of those labels. I felt creatively and artistically very confident in that record. I’m very proud of that record, but I had such a grand concept for it that I think I got a little bit lost in it and couldn’t quite deliver it the way that I imagined I would.”

As a result 2016’s Car Boot Sale was about going back to basics. “It was very much a return to the first couple of records that I made,” Mitchell notes, “digging into that singer/songwriter thing that I’d tried to get away from.”

With Full Circle finalised and ready for release on October 5, Mitchell is taking stock of what’s next, saying, “Looking forward, I guess I’m trying really hard to be keenly aware of what I want to do. It’s such a game to keep creatively stimulated and excited.”

THE SUPERJESUS CELEBRATE 20TH ANNIVERSARY RE-RELEASE OF ICONIC ALBUM SUMO WITH MASSIVE NATIONAL TOUR

Twenty years on from their platinum selling album Sumo hitting number two on the ARIA Chart (and with a few ARIA Awards in the trophy cabinet), The Superjesus are back with an anniversary edition of their celebrated 1998 debut, set for release on August 17. As well as seeing the original album reissued on vinyl, the CD edition of Sumo – 20th Anniversary features bonus material sourced from triple j’s Live At The Wireless archive, as well as a never before heard studio recording: a Superjesus cover of Kylie Minogue’s Confide In Me. Supported by Triple M and New World Artists, The Superjesus will be hitting the road with an epic stack of gig dates in the second half of 2018 – fans had better get ready to get Down Again to the sounds of Adelaide’s finest ‘90s alternative rock band!

Initially known as Hell’s Kitchen, The Superjesus received national radio play with their debut 1996 EP Eight Step Rail and became a festival favourite at Big Day Out throughout the ‘90s. Inducted into the South Australian Music Hall of Fame in 2017, The Superjesus have much to celebrate – and celebrate they will with this extra-special edition of Sumo. Reflecting on the life-changing record, frontwoman Sarah McLeod says, “(When Sumo came out)…everything went big time. It was terrifying and exciting all at once. We worked so hard on that album… To be sitting here talking about it 20 years later, knowing that it was an important part of Australian music history and affected so many people along the way…it feels like an incredible achievement. We had no blueprint of how we wanted to sound – of course we had our influences, but it was the combination of those influences that made us become The Superjesus.”

Included in this massive Sumo re-release is the never-before-heard version of Kylie Minogue’s Confide In Me by The Superjesus. The track holds particular pertinence for frontwoman Sarah McLeod, since it was the number one single on the ARIA Singles Chart the month in which The Superjesus first formed in 1994. This interpretation is heavy as hell, and it’s got that undeniable Superjesus taste. “I have always been a Kylie fan,” says Sarah. “Back in 96 we recorded a really heavy version of Confide In Me, just for our own amusement. No one ever heard it, I can’t even find it to hear it now… I went to the guys and reminded them of the recording, and went straight home to work up a demo of it. Within a week we were playing it live on the festival stage and it seemed like the perfect addition to the Sumo – 20th Anniversary edition.”

The Superjesus are set to hit the road later this year to celebrate all things Sumo – and the experienced rockers are more than ready to give fans what they’ve been waiting for. With a couple of massive festival slots under their belt for this year already The Superjesus are back in a big way. Stoked to be back in touring mode, Sarah says, “Touring is all about stamina and momentum. In the 90’s we used to tour non-stop, we would play 5 to 6 nights a week for months to years at a time. This kind of momentum makes the band so incredibly tight – nothing else on earth can make a band better than by playing every night in front of a crowd. Since the 90’s we have not toured like this… We want to embark on this tour with no fear like we did then!” Bassist Stu Rudd gives fans a taste of what to expect from the massive shows, “We have not played some of the tunes we’ll be playing on this tour for years, seriously – YEARS! It’s going to be one hell of a show, playing Sumo in full, then following up with some faves as well! We are so pumped for this tour!”

Sumo – 20th Anniversary Edition CD and a limited red vinyl pressing of the original album will be out August 17.

WHAT SO NOT ‘BEAUTIFUL THINGS WORLD TOUR’ AUSSIE LEG TO KICK OFF NEXT WEEK PERTH SHOW SOLD OUT + LIMITED TIX AVAIL TO REMAINING SHOWS NATIONAL SUPPORTS ANNOUNCED

Aussie superstar producer What So Not is set to kick off the Australian leg of his epic Beautiful Things world tour in celebration of the release of his long awaited, critically acclaimed debut LP, Not All The Beautiful Things. Starting with a sold out show at Metro City in Perth in just over a week (on June 16), we can also reveal that only a very limited number tickets remain to each of the Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane shows, with the tour wrapping on June 30.

Opting for a hands-on role across every aspect of his project, What So Not has hand selected some killer supports to take on the road with him, as well as teaming up with triple j Unearthed to add some emerging talent to the lineup on each stop of the tour (Alêtro – Ade, Yvng Jalapeno – Bris, Luboku – Mel, Tina Says – Per).

On main support duties is the incredible Brooklyn-based artist, CHROME SPARKS who has converted a legion of supporters to his deftly hybridized sound, including Pitchfork, Dancing Astronaut, Indie Shuffle, and FADER. And also joining the fun is Sydney-based pop wunderkind, KOTA BANKS, whose first single Empty Streets featuring MOZA has amassed over 18 million streams.

Pumped to take his pals on the road with him, What So Not says, “You would have heard Chrome Sparks in my sets a number of times over the years, I’m a huge fan! And I’ve had an ear on Kota ever since Nina Las Vegas put me onto her. So excited to see what these two bring to stage!”

Over three years in the making, Not All the Beautiful Things is about transformation and metamorphosis, a culmination of everything the Australian-born artist has been working towards as he’s built his reputation as one of the most innovative producers in the game, garnering over 469 million combined streams in the process. More than an album, it’s a fully realized artistic statement in which What So Not is in full control of every aspect, from the stage design and visuals to the music videos and merchandise. “I didn’t want to put anything out that doesn’t cohesively match the essence of the songs,” explains What So Not, the man behind it all, also known as Chris Emerson.

Described by NYLON as “refined and a total blast,” Not All The Beautiful Things was triple j’s Feature Album and peaked at number 14 on the ARIA charts and number 1 on the NZ Top 40 album chart. The album is named for the “incredible things we don’t pay attention to,” and, as What So Not revealed to Billboard, “everything came from real stories.”

Balancing prolific touring and studio time, 2017 saw What So Not close Coachella’s Gobi tent and headline Australia’s Listen Out festival and sold out shows across Europe, the USA and UK – and now it’s time for him to return to Australia to bring his new album to life for a homegrown crowd. Thrilled to be back in the country and to kick off the Aussie leg of the tour, What So Not enthuses, “Australia! I’m almost home! I have a lot in store & heard Perth sold out last week, amped to see you all again!”

“Refined and a total blast, What So Not’s debut is well worth the wait. His belief in it pulses through each downbeat and anti-chorus. This is honest work through and through. Ain’t that beautiful, indeed.” – NYLON

“Through a myriad of influences and emotion, What So Not’s maturity as an artist and ear for collaboration has allowed his established sound to flourish, creating something for everyone. A well-curated, well-rounded work on a bed of exquisite production.” – TheMusic.com.au

“There is really not one bad song on the album…What So Not explores many different production styles as his raw talent shines through perfectly.” – EDM Sauce
