THE AUDREYS RELEASE FIRST NEW MUSIC IN 10 YEARS UNVEILING THE PENSIVE COUNTRY GEM SECONDHAND BOOTS
Renowned for their glimmering pastiche of alternative country and beyond, today ARIA Award-winning act The Audreys return with a stunning slice of brooding country, releasing new single Secondhand Boots; the first new music from The Audreys in 10 years, alongside their 20th anniversary as a band in 2024.
Based around a real-life experience for vocalist Taasha Coates, Secondhand Boots lulls you with gentle yet driving rhythms, glistening instrumentals and the hauntingly intimate vocal stylings of Coates herself. A heart-rending and melancholic country delight, Secondhand Boots also arrives as The Audreys’ first new music in a decade, with the end result launching a sublime new era for the group, laden with tangible narratives. “On our last tour we did a cover of Lonely Girls by Lucinda Williams,” shares Coates, “and we love the way the track locks into a gentle but driving two-feel and sticks to it throughout the whole song. Our drummer Beej would stand at the front and play shaker, something that is surprisingly difficult to do well. So that song became a reference track for us when we were recording Secondhand Boots because it was such a fave.”
“I’ve made a lot of bad decisions in my life, but a few years ago I made an absolute doozy,” Coates adds. “This song is about that, and that’s pretty much all I can say without getting sued. They are my boots in the cover art. I bought them in Texas nearly 20 years ago, so they’d have
some stories to tell. Sadly, they’re not actually the secondhand boots referred to in the song – those ones I threw away.
With Coates working alongside a talented array of musicians to create this new single, guitarist Tom Kneebone, bassist Felicity Freeman, and drummer Beej Barker, Secondhand Boots also added some extra sparkle courtesy of producer and engineer Ryan Martin John of Cactus Cactus Sound, and mastering by MaderVMusic’s Alex Mader. And as if the reality of a brand new The Audreys track wasn’t enough excitement for one day, Coates also showcases a brand new skillset brewed during the pandemic years on Secondhand Boots, adding yet another creative string to her bow, as she explains, “During Covid I learned to play the guitar (I’m a piano player) and I’m playing high-strung on this track. It’s pretty quiet in the mix, to be fair, but it’s in there. I’m super proud.”
Formed back in 2004 by Coates and guitarist Tristan Goodall, The Audreys have gone on to release four full-length albums, with 2006’s Between Last Night and Us, 2008’s When the Flood Comes and 2011’s Sometimes the Stars all taking home the ARIA Award for Best Blues & Roots Album, as well as their most recent album, 2014’s ‘Til My Tears Roll Away scoring an ARIA nomination itself. Renowned for their dynamic and silken sonic wiles, The Audreys became a beloved fixture on the Australian touring scene, with countless gigs in their wake, and have also ticked off club and festival shows in North America, the UK, and Europe. Hitting pause briefly in 2016, with Coates releasing her first solo album, Taasha Coates and Her Melancholy Sweethearts, The Audreys continued to share their musical magic and tour up until the COVID years hit; and, devastatingly, The Audreys journey changed irrevocably in 2022 with the untimely passing of Goodall. “Tristan and I started The Audreys in 2004, so this year marks our 20th anniversary,” shares Coates. “Sadly, we lost of beautiful Tristan in 2022, but before he passed he gave me his blessing to continue the band without him. I’ve been playing with my current band for about three years now and safe to say they’re the greatest group of musicians anyone could ever hope to work with.”
“Losing Tristan really devastated me, he’d been my dearest friend for 25 years, but we remember and honour his legacy all the time on stage and in the studio. I’ve been healing through music.”
A pensive yet charismatic return, and one that heralds an exciting new creative chapter for The Audreys closing out 2024 and looking ahead into the new year, Secondhand Boots is equally a heartbreaker and a crystalline triumph, channelling everything fans have known and loved The Audreys for over the past 20 years into something tantalising and new.
“I have waited a long time for this, so I am relieved, excited and terrified in equal measure,” Coates concludes. “Putting out new music is always scary, but we have lovely fans who’ve been waiting patiently for something new from us for a while and I’m so thrilled that we can finally deliver for them. I hope they love it as much as we do.”
Secondhand Boots is out today, Friday November 15.
NEW ORDER ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN TOUR FOR MARCH 2025
Iconic synth-pop pioneers, New Order have today announced an Australian tour for March 2025. The tour will see them perform all the biggest hits from their impressive four-decade, 10-album career on stages across Perth, Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney in March 2025.
Their first Australian tour since 2020, New Order will transform some of the country’s most beloved live music venues into synth-pop laser wonderlands. They hit RAC Arena (Perth) on March 5, Sidney Myer Music Bowl (Melbourne) on March 8, Riverstage (Brisbane) on March 11, and finishing up with two shows on the spectacular Sydney Opera House Forecourt on March 14 and 15.
There will be a fan presale live from 11:00am (local time) Monday 28 October until 9am (local time) Thursday 31 October, with general public tickets on sale from 10am (local time) Thursday 31 October. Tickets available from teglive.com.au.
Thrilled to be returning to Australian shores, the band shared, “It’s an honour to be coming back to perform in one of our favourite places. We sadly had to cancel a Melbourne show in March 2020, as a consequence of Covid and are so happy we can come back to play again. We’ve always loved playing in Australia and are excited to be returning for a run of very special shows in 2025. Good things come to those who wait!”
From the ashes of the legendary band Joy Division, New Order has triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of all time. Last year, they celebrated 40 years of their hit Blue Monday and shared a reissued edition of their classic compilation Substance 1987, the band’s biggest selling album to date. With mountains of awards under their belt and over 3.5 million albums sold worldwide, New Order have proven they are a force within the industry, and are as relevant as ever, having won over fans of all ages, even headlining Barcelona’s Primavera Sound last year.
The band first visited Australia in 1982, shortly after the release of their debut album, Movement. Over the years, they have returned multiple times, captivating Australian audiences with their unique blend of post-punk and electronic music, and they’ll be back in 2025 to play through all their hits – Blue Monday, Temptation, Bizarre Love Triangle – just to reel off a few.
Tickets go on sale from teglive.com.au on Thursday 31 October at 10am local time.

WHEN KEV MET BOB RIDES AGAIN: AUSTRALIA’S BELOVED MUSICAL ICONS KEVIN MITCHELL AND BOB EVANS REUNITE FOR HISTORIC NATIONAL TOUR IN NOV/DEC
Off the back of the monumental success of the inaugural When Kev Met Bob tour last year, Australia’s beloved musical icons Kevin Mitchell and Bob Evans are reuniting for another momentous national tour in November and December, returning to capital cities and playing at a haul of new regional markets. Igniting audiences with its innovative blend of rock and melodic folk, and playing to sold-out venues across the country in 2023, Kev is thrilled to announce the return of the tour, aptly titled When Kev Met Bob Rides Again, with tickets onsale now from www.bobevans.com.au.
Two great singer-songwriters, Kevin Mitchell—frontman of the iconic post-grunge ‘90s rock band Jebediah, and treasured folk artist Bob Evans—both men driven by an unrelenting curiosity and desire to push boundaries. The fact they’re one and the same individual hardly matters, to Kev and Bob it’s all about the music.
When Kev Met Bob Rides Again will launch across the country, kicking off in Brunswick Heads on November 14, before making stops at Gold Coast, Brisbane, Belgrave (Victoria), Perth, Adelaide, Newcastle, Caringbah, Bulli and Sydney, finally, returning to Kev’s adopted hometown of Melbourne for a grand finale at the Northcote Social Club on December 14.
Fans can expect a captivating performance that spans over 30 years of music, blending the high-energy rock anthems of Kev’s seminal masterwork, Jebediah, with the reflective, acoustic melodies of his ARIA award-winning alter ego Bob Evans, featuring a carefully curated selection of fan favourites, alongside new additions from Mitchell’s extensive 12 album catalogue.
The tour will blur the lines between Kev and Bob’s unique styles, swapping out electric and acoustic instruments as needed. For diehard fans of both acts, the upcoming shows will be a celebration of what makes these two artists so special and revered by music fans across the country. “Last year I took the plunge with something that had been at the back of my mind for many years, playing a show that combined my Jebediah and Bob Evans songs together for the first time ever,” explains Kev. “For nearly 30 years I had kept them completely separate but now felt ready to step into a new era. The result was much more than I had expected, sold out shows and a peculiar feeling of completeness that was new. Simply put, it was the most satisfying run of shows I had done in years, and I knew straight away that I had to do it again. So why not now, at the end of 2024? In a year where Jebediah released their first new album in over a decade and with so many other Jebs and Bob songs to choose from, this new round of When Kev Met Bob shows will revisit the best moments from the last tour and add a whole batch of different songs into the mix, stretching all the way back to 1996 and right up to the present”.
When Kev Met Bob Rides Again is not just a return of a successful tour; it is a testament to Mitchell’s enduring love for music and his dedication to his craft. Kev’s alter-ego Bob was born even as Mitchell was at the height of his success with radio and festival mainstay Jebediah. While the band was recording their second album Of Someday Shambles in 1999, Kev began penning songs under his Bob Evans moniker. Since then, Bob has won multiple ARIA awards across his six-album career, with his most recent Tomorrowland released in 2021, and Jebediah just this year released OIKS, the band’s first new album in 13 years, with OIKS catapulting their iconic past and present into a dazzling new era. Over nearly three decades, Kev has continued to push the boundaries of his artistry, from the fuzz pedal guitar-driven energy of Jebediah’s alt-rock to the semi-acoustic stylings of Bob Evans.
When Kev Met Bob Rides Again promises to be an unmissable event, offering a unique opportunity to see two of Australia’s most beloved musical personas in the flesh, as one artist delivers a performance at the height of his creative achievement.
Decades of musical excellence and innovation once again culminate in a concert for the ages. When Kev Met Bob Rides Again promises to be an extraordinary tribute to one of this country’s best loved troubadours.
Tickets to When Kev Met Bob Rides Again are on sale now from www.bobevans.com.au.
